Refurbished in Summer 2009, The MAve NYC is very much a work in progress – at the time I stayed the lobby area was still unfinished had been filled with red and white balloons as a clever distraction this meant that the complimentary grab and go style breakfast The MAve provides, which is normally taken in the lobby, had to grabbed and taken to my room – not ideal but not for ever either.

The standard rooms can at best be described as cosy but tastefully appointed and comfortable and feature Sealy ultra plush pillow topped mattresses, 32 inch HD TV's, free wi-fi, iPod docking stations, velour bathrobes, H2O bath products, and cordless phones.  However the penthouse in which I stayed can best be described as very very cool. A fantastic living room with leather sofas and chairs and of course a flat screen. A massive bed in a more than ample bedroom and a bathroom with no tub but the best and biggest shower I have been in.

The hotel also has a complimentary fitness gym which was pretty compact and bijoux, with only room to house a treadmill and an exercise bike.

The MAve appears to sell its self on its outstanding customer service – and on this front they definately do not let you down. They literally cannot do enough for you, from organising restaurants and bars to check out to running out to local diners to grab you a bite to eat. One thing that did frustrate is that the cannot bring alcohol to your room as there room service comes from a restaurant down the road – so if you want a drink whilst getting ready for your night out – get your own.

The location is fantastic for a quick stroll down to Union Square or up to Midtown with lots of great restaurants and shops in the vicinity.

When the MaVe is finished I think the penthouse is defiantly worth a look – and make the most of the concierge staff they are truly fantastic.
