If you like Thai then you are in for a treat at Nipa - the award-winning traditional Thai restaurant on the first floor of the Lancaster London Hotel.
The restaurant is inspired by the original Nipa Thai restaurant at the Lancaster’s sister hotel, The Landmark in Bangkok, and the quality and authenticity of the cuisine makes it feel like you could be right there in the heart of Thailand's thriving capital - oh if only! Nipa is one of only 15 Thai restaurants in the UK to have received the prestigious “Thai Select” award from the Thai Government proving its highest standards of quality and taste!
Each of the dishes is prepared by Head Chef, Nongyao Toopchoi, and her dedicated team of female chefs according to traditional Thai recipes. Nongyao’s menu offers a mix of traditional dishes from Thailand’s central region but she also blends a variety of regional specialities into the menu, using herbs and Thai ingredients flown-in directly from Thailand. The choice is huge and of course you will want to start off with some lovely prawn crackers and sweet chilli sauce but be wary of filling yourself up to early - far better to order extra starters and mains when they taste this good!
The extensive à la carte menu at Nipa includes starters such as Tod man pla (deep-fried fish cakes); Thai satay kai/nuea (grilled marinated chicken or beef served with a peanut sauce and cucumber relish); and Poo nim (deep-fried soft-shell crab served with plum sauce). While the tantalising main courses on offer include treats such as Yum ma muang poo nim (crispy soft-shell crab served with spicy mango salad); Yam sam sa mut (spicy mixed seafood salad); and traditional Pad Thai (fried noodles with prawns). There is also a wide selection of Thai salads, pan-fried dishes, red and green Thai curries, rice and noodles, while a range of vegetarian options are also available. There are also some mouth watering deserts on offer to finish off the meal in style. My favourite - simple lychees with ice-cream but there is also banana with coconut cream; and water chestnuts coated with tapioca flour in coconut milk and syrup.
An à la carte lunch would cost approximately £25 per person, while the average price of a four-course dinner with wine is £30. Nipa also provides three set lunch and dinner menus offering a selection of the chef’s favourite dishes. These are priced at £27, £30 and £32 per person.
