It is a nerve racking decision for a girl to make.... do I or don’t I get hair extensions?  When I was given the chance to review Antenna (the birthplace of Hair Extensions) I was excited at the idea of running my fingers through the long luscious tresses I would have but slightly nervous  as to what I might be letting myself in for .....  

Although Antenna is located on Kensington Church Street it was slightly set back from the main road by about 20 feet so I very nearly missed the two storey wooden clad building that housed the salon. I was greeted by Melissa who introduced me to their senior stylist Courtney who would be doing my hair that day together with a regular stylist.

Do not be put off by the very individual styles of each member of the team; each one of them was polite, friendly and above all professional. I had no real preconceived idea of what I wanted to do with my hair so I bit the bullet and quite literally put myself (and my precious hair) in their hands.

Courtney suggested that I had “monofibre” hair extensions plaited into my hair using five different tones. I was so confident in his knowledge and professionalism as he explained to me the importance of colour and tone that I left him to choose, not only the hair colour and length but also the final cut.
 
The salon is spread over two floors; the top devoted to washing and treatments and the downstairs for styling and hair extensions.  The decor is amazing warm earthy tones to the walls and floors, feature wooden doors, bespoke individual crafted metal fittings and ornate mirrors.

The salon is able to fashion any hair type from European to Afro Caribbean hair, even dreadlocks. Their speciality however lies in the monofibre hair extensions; they have been doing them for more than 30 years and they definitely know what they are doing. One of the other senior stylists let me examine her hair very closely and you honestly could not tell that she had them in!

Although my appointment was in the morning; having hair extensions is a lengthy business (pardon the pun!) and my appointment crossed over lunchtime, so a junior was despatched to fetch me a sandwich to accompany my glass of white wine (all manner of beverages you can imagine are complimentary).

When the extensions were finally all in place, Courtney then began to transform them with a fantastic cut and style. He also gave me step by step instructions on how to look after my extensions as well as the products I should use; shampoo, conditioner and a spray to be spritzed on daily.   All are sold in the salon and further supplies can be bought from the salon and if necessary ordered online and sent on to anywhere in the world. They are no more expensive than other good quality hair products. 

This salon is not cheap – but this is one of those cases where you definitely pay for what you get!  It is at the top end of the market but in my opinion well worth it. If you want top quality hair extensions from a quality team then Antenna are bang on the money!

I left Antenna feeling and looking like a superstar and could not resist the urge to continually toss my glossy mane. A few weeks on I have to say the care of my extensions is no more complicated or time consuming than my usual hair routine.  My hair has been a show stopping hit and within two days of having my extensions I can report that at least two people have booked their appointments for their own “transformations”.
